The Lemon Conspiracy!
Since childhood I have been a lover of lemons in any form, especially lemonade. So here I am a thousand years later writing about one of my favorites. It is so exciting for me to actually find solutions to everyday problems.
As we all take a closer look at ways to cut costs not only in our food bills but also finding home cures for our health concerns. One of the magical components for good health is something we may have in our Fridge. It is the unassuming lemon or lime, and I’m speaking about organic fruit here.
The information that I am going to share with you comes from Dr. Randolph Stone’s book, Health Building, The Conscious Art of Living Well. According to Stone, “Citrus fruit can change the over-acid condition of the body to alkaline, one by it’s heavy fruit calcium contents, which supply the bones, teeth, blood and nervous system with calcium and phosphorous”. He dedicates a whole chapter to limes and lemons in his book. I am going to speak specifically about lemons because I have had personal success with them.
I had suffered with eczema for most of my life. Although not contagious, it was something that gave me much discomfort and a degree of shame because I didn’t know what to do about it. My most recent outbreak concentrated on my lower legs. It was itchy, (the more I scratched the more it itched) often times painful and not so attractive to look at. I had tried numerous remedies, some of which worked for a while and then stopped short of clearing the infection. My doctor prescribed steroid creams, which did nothing to heal my condition.
In his book, Dr. Stone recommends using a treatment of fresh lemon juice mixed with Almond oil. I made about a tablespoonful up for each application. Dr. Stone suggested that the mixture be applied several times per day until the condition clears. This routine included taking the lemon and oil mixture internally as well. I found upon experimenting, that actually rubbing the skin with the fresh cut lemon pulp helped speed the process tremendously.
Well, I certainly had nothing to lose at this point, so I gave it a try. I made a small amount of the lemon and oil mixture and applied twice a day. I was blown away by the results, which I must say are amazing and only after about 3 weeks of daily application. Not only did it work but also it took the itch away completely and the raised, crusty patches are now a thing of the past. My skin is smooth and clear. I do have skin discoloration, but that is the result of many, years of scratching. I know with time the scars will fade as well. I apply the almond oil daily to my skin now. I feel that it helps with the dryness.
Dr. Stone says, “ Citrus juices are a great aid for many nervous conditions”. A list of things that will be helped by using lemons are:
Sore throats and colds –Lemon and or lime juice are great sweetened with honey and diluted with water, before or between meals and before retiring, especially if pineapple juice is added to the mixture.
Asthma - By using two tablespoonfuls of lemon juice before each meal and before bedtime, in addition to a starch-free and milk free diet (milk, dairy and starch cause mucus to form).
Athlete’s foot- Can be quickly brought under control by using an application of lemon juice combined with fresh papaya juice.
Tobacco and alcohol- Keeping some fresh lemon wedges available when cravings arise can be extremely helpful. Sucking on the lemon will greatly assist in cut the craving of the drug(s).
Facial wrinkles and lines under the eyes - Using the same mixture (lemon juice and almond oil) gently massage under the outer corners of the eye, (please be careful not to get the juice into the eye) working inward towards the nose. Leave on for a few moments and rinse with water.
Scalp itch or infection- Massage the above-mentioned liquid into the scalp before going to bed and shampoo out in the morning. I would suggest testing a small area of scalp first to make sure there are no adverse affects.
Joint pain- the same as for skin conditions (equal parts lemon juice and oil applied frequently) gently massage the affect joint for at least five minutes.
Arthritis-Using a liver flush daily (see previous post). Or take the juice of half a lemon before each meal and before retiring and adhere to a strictly vegetarian, non-starch diet for this condition.
Chills, fever and headaches - Use the fresh lemon with clover or alfalfa tea freely and abstain from food until the symptoms disappear.
Sore throat- Gargle, using lemon juice. Also, prepare and drink a mixture of lemon juice, raw honey and pineapple juice.
Boils and abscesses- apply the pulp of the lemon, and take the juice with the oil internally.
Moth repellent-Use ripe lemons into which cloves have been stuck to make them look like brown balls of cloves. Hang them in clothes closets and in pockets. They will dry and leave a fine fragrance and keep the moths away.
Lemons are delicious, abundant and relatively inexpensive considering the alternative. Of course, as always, check with your health care provider before trying any of these remedies. Don’t be afraid to investigate alternatives. I recommend that you start with reading the book first. The book has a wealth of information on how to simplify your diet, easy exercises and Dr. Stone’s philosophy on life and health. Exploring simple, natural remedies can be an amazing gift to our loved ones and to us.
Olive or sesame oil can be replaced if almond oil is not available.

Choiceless Awareness
Being aware of whatever is present without choice or preference. Wikipedia
There is certain Surrender to fall. That sense of slowing down comes to the forefront of our awareness. Our bodies start to listen to the swooshing of the leaves as they dance and sway. Take a brief moment to drink in your natural surroundings. Are you starting to feel calmer?
The light changes and there is an indescribable fragrance in the breeze, an amazing sense of the earth below your feet. An ever so delicate crispness arrives with the morning light and you can smell a slight dampness rising up from the ground.
Your cells recognize the familiar temperature and the crunch of leaves under your feet and the golden glow of the sun as it hits you distinctly in your heart center. Sitting at this moment, I here the wind sounding like the Ocean, in and out breathing space and calm into my being.
There is something magical about the tress and how they stand and bend in the wind and weather. Allowing the elements without question to shape, alter and move them, knowing that the warmth of summer lasts but a brief moment. Storing the suns energy deep in their roots becomes most important, an investment that will feed them over the long sleep of winter.
Without choice, every leaf surrenders to the coming of the seasons chill. Silently, they give up their holding, their possession of the season, back to the earth. Why do they effortlessly give up their bloom? Do they give it up willingly or do they cling to the last shivering leaf? Is the knowing of death and rebirth sealed into their DNA?
If I were to converse with these relative-beings would they give up their secrets? Would they say that spring would come again for sure? Does it even matter? They are so present in each moment. There is no running away or trying to change what they are. They know what stuff they are made of and they expect to be nothing less then who they are.
Such a sense of trust is built into everything. Sometimes for us Remembering is required. Possibly a few moments just listening to the wind as it moves in around and through us can be healing. When we allow ourselves to become aware of the sounds and the silent shifts in our internal dialogue we can begin to receive the messages of our deepest knowing. Allowing things to be as they are. No grasping, no doubting, no fear, just choice-less, choice. If choice is removed are we left with just BEING?

Life Stuff
So it’s 11 p.m. and thoughts arise. I am reminded that I love to write when it’s late at night and quiet. It feels like I’m the only one in the world. I can hear the night birds off in the distance. No one believes me but there really are bird that sing in the night.
Maybe I’m a night bird trying to let my voice be heard. I am reminded too of how meshed we all are. We are one big blob of stuff spinning in and out. We are constantly trying to understand the world around us when we might better use our time understanding our inner world.
I love it when the pieces of your life don’t match, how endings come in the middle and beginnings sometimes come when you least expect them. Everything meshes together as one big glob, a giant ebb and a flow of life stuff.
What is love and how many of us have ever really experienced it? Sometimes real love comes at the end of a really bad relationship. You suddenly realize you had lost yourself in all the coming and going. You begin to feel yourself in your body and the desire for self-nourishment rises to your consciousness.
This pain can be transforming a great start to understanding the SELF. You realize that someone else can never fill the empty hole wanting to be filled. The work is about recognizing the void and going inside to investigate the need. The hole will persist from one relationship to another unless we ask the self what it needs. Until we figure out what the void needs we will continue to re-do the same we well continue to re visit the drama until the need has been met from our INSIDE out.
Maybe we really don’t know what love is; maybe it’s just a bunch of wanting, needing and desire masked as love. The highs of it can be dangerously high and the lows so deep you feel wrenched and torn.
Coming back from the depth of it is a strange and lonely journey. There is a sense of disconnectedness and a need to fill the space. Someone said that this is the time for equanimity, a time for mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper. This is easier said then done.
I don’t believe the wanting truly subsides, it just goes somewhere else in the body and it can lay dormant for a lifetime. Trying to disconnect from the stuff doesn’t work either. The real truth is that you must let the beast of loss and suffering consume you and spit you out. You’ll be naked, stark and confused but you will finally wake up to the reality that the only true love is the love of self.
Great love comes from seeing the depths of your pain and just sitting in it until it’s done with you. Great joy comes when you continually return to the center of your being as these comings and goings ride your heart like a crazy wild beast. Life’s a bitch when you least expect it. Maybe the only reason for this existence is to know the self from the inside out and not to run away.
We are all truly splendid. How could we not be? We are here in this grand illusion doing the dance called LIFE. I am often reminded at those moments of intense uncertainty, not to take myself too seriously, to wait for the out breath to return.
